At Powell’s Pride, we enjoy saving old buildings one at a time and living up to our mission to preserve and transform them into invaluable spaces in the community. That is why we are proud to have restored an old school structure and repurposed it into the Emerson Garden Apartments in Quincy, IL, the first to do so in the city’s history.
This is a three-story building turned into luxury apartment homes. Although a very large property, it is nestled in a quiet neighborhood. It is close to schools, parks and shopping. Emerson was stripped to its bones, saving vast amounts of history, where possible. The building is now equipped with a state-of-the-art fire system, new water and electric lines. Also added to the property are two apartments that are wheelchair accessible with attached garages. Incorporating the old with the new, storage-garages, play areas and outdoor use areas make this once old school into the grand property it has become.
History and Features
Memories of this old building are still alive among people who were once students here and still reside in the area. The north end of the building was built in 1900 and opened as Emerson School six years later. Its original banisters, wainscoting, and wood stairs were meticulously preserved to look the same. The school’s southern wing was built in 1927 with terrazzo floors, a gym, and an auditorium, which we incorporated into the new apartment spaces during restoration.

We offer two and three-bedroom apartments with two bathrooms. We also offer four bedroom with three bathrooms. The floorplans are designed to optimize the interior space, while creating an inviting and comforting environment for our families and individuals that live here. Emerson Garden Apartments’ have many amenities to offer. Inside amenities include secure entry, workout room, gymnasium, and rich history items. Every home includes stainless steel appliances and a washer & dryer. We have a “Boiler Room” where large parties can be hosted. Outdoor amenities include gas grills, picnic tables with umbrellas, lush landscaping with large grass area to have family outdoor time. There is off street parking. Without crossing the street you will have access to a city park with playground equipment.
