Tidbits of the Powells and how they started Powell’s pride.

Richard was born and raised in Quincy and moved to Las Vegas where he met the love of his life. Felicia, born and raised, yes, they have hospitals in Las Vegas and the two raise two boys.

Over the years of coming to Quincy to visit family and friends the two found an interest in old buildings and the history that comes with them. One building had barbers in it from before WWII. The purchase of the 1st Powell’s Pride, Tonsorial, in 2007 and Powell’s Pride II with Atrium in 2008 got them into building, planning and design. Felicia found rewards in digging up the history and the great stories of each of the buildings. Thinking it was great to go RV’ing and live in Las Vegas having a couple of rentals all was good. Then come the Elephant in this story… Emerson School in 2014 Now the home of Emerson Garden Apartments. This was no small project like tonsorial and Atrium. Emerson was one city block long and half a block wide. As a close bid with Quincy Park District as then owners. The Powells giving a bid never dreamed of winning. Now what and what do they do? Well, finding excitement and challenges in the best way to eat the elephant as the saying goes one bite at a time. Here in 2024 the Powells are in the last stage of completing the project. The 6 units will finish the project with a total of 26 luxury apartments. Each one has its own layout, design and unique features. The Powells work in the summer and travel back to Las Vegas in the winter to be with family and friends. Felicia works in the RV park and Richard drives propane truck as an extra in the winter.

We will have to see if what they say is true about no more in the pride but we all know how that goes..
